Tasva sherwanis run 36 to 44, and the trap is the letters: Tasva's 36 is an XS while Manyavar's 36 is an S. Same chest number, different letter. Tasva also cuts noticeably slimmer through the waist than Manyavar, so the waist row decides more than usual.

Chest: around the fullest part, tape under the armpits and parallel to the floor. Breathe normally, do not puff up.
Shoulder: across the back, from one shoulder bone to the other.
Waist: around where your trouser waistband sits, one finger under the tape.
A sherwani has no forgiveness. It is structured and close-cut, and cannot be let out much. Between sizes, take the larger and tailor down.

Through the waist, yes. Tasva grades roughly 15 cm between chest and waist where Manyavar allows about 7, so a Tasva sherwani is noticeably more tapered. If your waist is proportionally large, size by the waist row.
A 40 inch chest is about 101.5 cm, which is Tasva's 40 (M), fitting chest 99 to 104 cm. Confirm your waist sits within 84 to 89 cm, because the 40 is cut slim through the middle.
The same numeric size, usually yes, but check the waist. A Manyavar 40 allows a 91.5 to 98 cm waist; a Tasva 40 expects 84 to 89 cm. If your waist is the larger measurement, go up a size in Tasva.
